DAKSHARAMAM BHIMESWARA SWAMY TEMPLE

Shri Bhimeswara Swamy temple is located in Draksharama Town of East Godavari District. This Temple is known as one of the Five Powerful temples of Lord Siva. The place where this temple is located is popularly known as Pancharama Kshetram also. Shri Bhimeswara Swami Temple is located in the Draksharama Village in Ramachandrapuram Mandal of East Godavari District. This ancient temple of lord shiva in Draksharama is 10 km away from Ramachandrapuram Mandal and 40 km away from Kakinada Town, the district head quarters of East Godavari District. The place where this ancient temple is located was called with the name Daksharamam in olden days. Lord Shiva is presiding as Bhimeswara Swamy in this ancient temple.  Goddess Parvati is present at this temple as the consort of Lord Shiva with the name of “Manikyamba”. Shri Bhimeswara Swamy temple in Draksharama Town is also known as Dakshina Kasi.
History of the TempleHistory of Shri Bhimeswara Swamy temple located in Draksharama Village will start from the mid of 8th Century CE. Archeologists found that this ancient temple was constructed during 8th Century CE to 11TH Century CE. There is a construction of 5 storied Gopuram at the entrance of this temple. Construction of two staired mandapam between two walls is another architectural attraction of this temple. The inner temple known as Garbhalaya resembles the culture of ancient architectural work. The Culture of architectural work of this temple is a Library for the students of architecture as it was built to have full of light and air with very good ventilation even in ancient days. There are several Shasanas of Chola & Sathavahanas to Vijayanagra & Reddy Kingdoms written time to time from centuries on the stone walls of this temple. The scripts of the Shasanas found to be in Dravidian, Tamil, Devanagri and Telugu scripts with the combination of Sanskrit and Telugu languages.
Legend of the TempleThe legend behind the temple is that the Idol of Lord Shiva present in the form of Siva linga at this temple was laid by the god Surya. It is believed that this temple was temple was built by angels in one night and stopped incompletely at the sunrise in the early hours. Due to that reason the perimeter wall was not completed before sunrise and still stands incomplete. It is believed that one part of 18 pieces of Dakshayani an incarnation of Goddess Parvati fell here. Due to that reason this place will be considered as Shakti Peetha. The Siva Linga present in this temple is a large crystal of 2.6 meter height, which is a unique feature of this ancient temple. Lord Shiva is accompanied by Goddess Parvati as Manikyamba at this temple. Some Purohit of this temple found 108 Shivite temples built around 40 km radius of this temple. A legend of this temple also says that the inner walls of the temple were once filled with diamonds that provided the required light for darshan. But those diamonds were turned in to stones, when Aurangazeb invaded the temple to plunder the diamonds making the inner sanctum dark.
